Diego is currently ranked 6th in the US Rotax Driver rankings. He has won 3 consecutive Championships and is working on his 4th.
At the 2014 Rotax Grand Nationals, Diego had an amazing week where he won two out of 3 heat races to qualify on pole for the pre-final. During the pre-final however, Diego was pushed off the track while leading. He then got back on track and recovered from last to salvage 12th place. Starting from 12th, Diego worked his way through the field where by lap 9, he had taken the lead. Over the next 7 laps, he would exchange the lead several times with Sebastian Montoya and Chase Heffner. Diego was on point taking the white flag, when Montoya and Heffner drafted past. Going into one of the last sections of the track, Montoya and Diego both passed Heffner to take the first two spots, when Heffner got into the right rear wheel of Diego, spinning them both, ending both their chances at a National Championship. It was am amazing race to watch and I could not have asked for him to race a better race. The link to the race can be seen on the media page.
Diego traveled to Utah in June for the 2014 Rotax Summer Shootout. Diego had two great days of racing against some of the best micromax drivers in the Country getting 2nd on Saturday and 3rd on Sunday. Diego also qualified on Pole on Sunday and won the pre-main.
Diego won the 6 race shootout to win a ticket to the Rotax World Finals on Team USA. Diego was the youngest competitor to ever compete in such an event.
